Erika Abner is Faculty Lead of Ethics and Professionalism in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Abner has provided individualized instruction in ethics and professionalism to medical trainees (undergraduate students and residents) since 2007 and to physicians through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario since 2014. She provides similar instruction to members of other health professions. Dr. Abner received her LL.B and LL.M from Osgoode Hall Law School, and her M.Ed. and PhD. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. She has curriculum, teaching and research experience in health professions education and legal education. Her teaching experience includes graduate courses in the Health Professions Teacher Education program, continuing professional development programs for lawyers, faculty development in legal education, and law school courses in legal writing and drafting. She has published original research on expertise in legal writing and on learning professionalism in the practice of law. Her continuing research interests include learning professionalism and ethics, transitions from school to work, and workplace learning.
